Over the past few months we have been collecting feedback on what the parent community feels are important aspects of the school experience for CSPC to prioritize and advocate for. Thank you for all of your suggestions and support. Below is a ranking of the proposals chosen by parents as being most important to focus our funds on. We are pleased to say that we will be able to fulfill all of these priorities with the funds we had set aside at our Annual Budget Meeting in October.
1) Math • Resources, Materials and Activities to support the instruction and learning of Math. 2) Daily Physical Activity (DPA) • CSPC will work with teachers and administration to boost fun factor, variety and easy incorporation of scheduled DPA in all classrooms. This includes consideration of jump rope as an activity. 3) Vaping Education for Students and Parents • Bring in a resource (Doctor or Public Health Nurse to speak to Gr 7 and 8 students about vaping (risks, health effects, peer pressure) 4) Family Skate night • Organize 1-2 nights when school families can get together for local skating and hot chocolate 5a) Steam Funding • Increase the funding currently available to teachers to access additional/better programming Anti-Bullying Awareness Week* • Create a week of anti-bullying awareness by including student and parent presentations by Bruce Langford (experienced consultant on this topic) Social Networking and Online Safety* • Paul Davis - presentations to empower students and educate parents on using screens safely and responsibly (April/Sep 2020) *tied for 5th place If you are interested in assisting with the implementation of any of these priorities please let us know as help is always needed and much appreciated. .Great News!!!
A quick update from the office of Councillor Gord Perks (Ward 4, Parkdale High-Park) to let you know that the City has commenced repair work on the stairs today. They currently expect the work to be completed by Friday December 6th. Thank you for your patience during this time. Thank you to all that made their voices heard 👍 -CSPC Hi everyone!
On Tuesday we had a conversation about the recently locked school playground gate from Ravina Garden. As requested, below please find wording you can cut and paste (or augment) and send to Councillor Gord Perks with a copy to our TCDSB Trustee Teresa Lubinski. Feel free to send to anyone else you think can influence the situation. If we all take a moment to send an email, we have a stronger chance of action being taken more quickly. Thanks 😊 Email addresses: [email protected] [email protected] Dear Mr. Perks, My name is ______ and I am the parent of a student at St Cecilia Catholic School. I am writing to you to express my concern regarding the closure of the east entrance to the St Cecilia playground, from Ravina Garden. On the morning of Tuesday November 19th, 2019 we attempted to enter the school playground via our normal walking route and were met with a locked gate. We understand the City of Toronto erected the fencing and locked the gate due to unsafe stairs coming up from Ravina Garden. The entrance is to remain closed until the stairs can be repaired. The closure forced us to take the next closest route to school which was through the Annette Community Centre parking lot and then along busy Annette Street. Now ___days into being re-routed, we are finding the alternate route very busy, creating a lot of additional congestion along the Annette St. sidewalk. Many kids are also cutting through the St Cecilia parking lot, which is extremely unsafe. Our community would like to be proactive. Not having access to the school playground from Ravina Garden is pushing a significant amount of extra traffic onto the main road. Since Annette PS and Humberside CI students are also making their way to school along the same stretch of Annette St. it is creating far more foot traffic on the sidewalk. Compound this with the inevitable snowfall that will/has occurred and it makes for an extremely tight walkway, greatly increasing the potential for an accident to happen. We are asking for your support in expediting the repair of the stairs, so that access to the St Cecilia playground can be restored as soon as possible. We are very concerned about children’s safety as they make their way to and from school every day. Please reply to let me know what you will do to ensure this important situation is being addressed in a timely manner. Sincerely, Xxxxxxxxx cc. Trustee Teresa Lubinski TCDSBdit. |
